A dyslexia-informed font project
CoDyslexic is an experimental font developed by Wei Wang as part of his PhD research at UNSW Art & Design. The project explores whether typographic design may contribute to more comfortable reading experiences for dyslexic readers, drawing on research, participant feedback, and iterative design development.

Designed through research
This project sits at the intersection of graphic design, literacy education, linguistics, and digital font technology. Rather than focusing only on the shape of individual letters, the research considers how spacing, layout, word recognition, and visual guidance may affect reading experience.
This PhD study was supervised by Associate Professor Ian McArthur and Dr Scott Brown of UNSW Art and Design.
A participatory design process
The font evolved through an iterative process of exploration, testing, feedback, and refinement. Input from dyslexic readers and education professionals helped inform the design, together with research evidence and professional design judgement.
From prototype to improvement
Each prototype was reviewed and refined iteratively. This helped show how different readers responded to particular typographic features, including which were preferred, neutral, or potentially distracting.
